MACKENZIE

& AUSTIN

Old Edwards Inn — Highlands, NC

THE FARM AT OLD EDWARDS
HIGHLANDS, NC

When Mackenzie and Austin planned their wedding at the iconic Old Edwards Inn in Highlands, NC, they didn’t just want a celebration—they wanted a performance. Blending the refined elegance of a black-tie affair with the high-energy soul of New Orleans, their day was a masterclass in Southern hospitality.

The day began with that classic Old Edwards charm. The groomsmen relaxed in the moody, leather-and-wood atmosphere of the Hummingbird Lounge, enjoying a few pre-ceremony drinks, while Mackenzie and her bridesmaids prepared in the bright, airy cottages nearby.

For the portraits, we took full advantage of the lush, manicured gardens and stone architecture that make Highlands one of the most sought-after wedding destinations in the Southeast. The couple even incorporated a vintage green Model A Ford, adding a timeless, cinematic touch to their first moments as husband and wife.

But the real magic happened after the cocktail hour. Paying homage to their love for Louisiana, the couple kicked off the reception with a traditional Second Line march. Leading their guests from the cocktail lawn into the reception hall with waving handkerchiefs and brass music, they instantly set the tone for an unforgettable party.

Inside, the energy never dipped, thanks to the incredible performance by Steel Toe Stiletto, leading to a packed dance floor all night long.

Capturing a wedding at Old Edwards Inn is always special because of the venue’s European-style luxury, but Mackenzie and Austin proved that you can bring a distinct, personal flair to even the most traditional setting.

If you are planning a Highlands, NC wedding and want a photographer who can capture both the quiet, elegant portraits and the raucous energy of the dance floor, I would love to connect.
